Two NYPD cops, James "Jimmy" Monroe (Bruce Willis) and Paul Hodges (Tracy Morgan), are suspended after being partners for nine years. For Jimmy the bad thing is that his daughter, Ava (Michelle Trachtenberg), is going to get married, and she plans to set a $500, 000 wedding ceremony.
Jimmy's ex-wife's husband intends to pay for the ceremony, but that would really humiliate Jimmy. Not wanting to be a "bad miserable dad", Jimmy decides to find the money even though he is suspended from the NYPD. His plan is to sell a 1952 baseball card, and that would really save the situation. But suddenly a drug addict steals the card and leaves Jimmy no chances.
But Jimmy is still a cop, and together with his partner they are going to retrieve the card and save Jimmy's reputation in the eyes of his daughter.
